Tiny Desk Live performance : NPR

For these of us (like me) who put on the time period “chronically on-line” like a badge of honor, PinkPantheress‘ world is our every little thing. After we shut our eyes, her shiny voice and Y2K nostalgia is a consolation. With a single curler in her bangs and the purse she’s by no means with out, PinkPantheress has turn out to be our soundtrack, imaginative and prescient board and information.

For this set, the as soon as nameless dance-pop star sheds the digital sounds that we all know her for; to our full delight, her voice is simply as shiny and her presence simply as entrancing in these new preparations. Wearing her signature tartan (with matching tea pot), PinkPantheress’ band expands her sound, swapping the glitched-out samples in “Woman Like Me” for heavier guitar riffs. She shapes the moments that we crave in songs like “Ache” and “Unlawful” as softer, jazzier ones.

As she performs, she nonchalantly cycles by means of the devices laid out earlier than her: some harmonica right here, a little bit of cowbell there, chimes a couple of times. Her comedic timing is deadpan, but exact — a reminder of why followers obsess over her digital footprint. It is at all times a present when artists reimagine their discography alongside us on the Desk. PinkPantheress dives into this problem, but maintains her magnetic aura, which is simply one more reason we nonetheless can not seem to look away.
