Eater Chicago’s Ashok Selvam Wins James Beard Media Award


The 2025 James Beard Basis Media Awards befell on June 14 in Chicago, and Eater Chicago’s Ashok Selvam gained the Jonathan Gold Native Voice Award. The award acknowledges, in keeping with the Beards, “the work of a person who engages readers by means of enterprising meals and eating protection, and whose work shows versatility in kind, reminiscent of opinions, profiles, cooking, fast hits, and onerous information reporting.”

As well as, Punch was acknowledged with a journalism award within the Beverage class for Craig Sauers’s function story on the Herculean challenges that distilleries face in Thailand. This award acknowledges “distinctive type, thorough information, plainspoken prose, and modern strategy in a single article on alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks.”

These wins got here amongst six nominations for Eater and Punch, together with nominations for Eater correspondent Jaya Saxena for the MFK Fisher Distinguished Writing Award, Eater Chicago freelance contributor Nylah Iqbal Muhammad within the Foodways class, Eater’s video group within the Industrial Media class, and an extra nomination within the Beverage class for Punch contributor Mickey Lyons. This marks Eater’s thirteenth and Punch’s fourth James Beard Media Award previously eight years.
